The Beatles had it wrong in their hit record, “Love Is All You Need.” Don’t get me wrong, love is absolutely essential in a relationship, but there is strong evidence and data to show that financial stress is the leading cause of divorce in this country. A study done by the University of Utah showed that couples who reported disagreeing about finances once a week were more than 30 percent more likely to get divorced than couples who reported disagreeing about finances a few times a month.

Not only that, but the frequency of financial disagreements is a strong predictor of divorce. I think many of us know or should know this, but when initiating a relationship love causes us to ignore the financial state-of-being of our relationships.

Exactly. When I show property/investments to couples, I prefer to give them BOTH a 1 page “survey” to complete SEPARATELY. I want to see couples on the same page before I move them forward with such a major step as real estate. I’ve actually pointed many to my http://mentoringmarriages.wordpress.com/ which I see as my unpaid 2nd career – giving the same help you just did to married folks so oft taken for granted.

Completely agree to you! Although love is essential, our age nowadays is more of practicality. We can’t live merely just because of “love”. We need to earn for our needs. It’s just sad that most of married couple failed to settle financial issues, this is why it leads to separation. It’s just money, but admit it we can’t live without it.
